Exploring the types of content and marketing
For those of you committed to implementing a content marketing strategy, Doug Rubashow from Studio44 offers up a 'back to basics' overview about the different types of content marketing strategies available.
Website copy for specific topics Every page on your website is an opportunity to both rank for keywords and give your audience more information about what you do and more con- fidence in your ability to deliver. Each page should, therefore, be about a clearly defined topic, and ideally, if you can have a page for every one of your core offerings – for example your drinks range, your entertainment etc - you will give yourself the best opportunity to have excellent search engine rankings for targeted keywords.
Blog/article content This is an extremely popular method of creating content for your website as almost every business has information they could talk about in a blog. Many of our clients think they don’t have anything of interest to say, but just remember, if you’re creating a blog, your goal should be to give away as much information as you possibly can. You’ll might surprise yourself at how much you have to say once you sit down and remind yourself of exactly what you have to offer!
Case studies Case studies are an incredibly effective way of showing just how the outlet works for customers. That could be a visitors commenting on the great entertainment on offer, the friendly staff or perhaps a fantastic experience on a sports screening day, or a birthday.
Good case studies should ideally include a combination of the following:
• Images – for example images of an event.
• A testimonial –testimonials from a named individual/groupswithin a specific case study context adds real credibility.
• Copy/text – it’s important to describe just what you did to attain the testimonial. If your customers (and potential customers) are more likely to be grabbed by images and a few words/paragraphs then shorter, snappier snippets will work best.
Video content People consume content in all sorts of different ways. I personally would always rather read a copy-rich article than watch a video, but many people love watching video content. Depending on your audience, video content can, therefore, be a good option to make sure everyone can enjoy your content.
Email newsletters Email newsletters are still an excellent way of keeping in touch. There is a theory that you should never go more than 90 days without communicating, and a monthly or even quarterly newsletter ticks this box. It’s also a great way to push new content, ideas and activities out to those who already know about you but might need a nudge. You’re going out to them proactively rather than sitting back and waiting for them to come to you.
There are, of course, many more content marketing methods, but these are all useful methods to communicate with your members, and indeed methods our clients at Studio44 are using to great effect.
